1968 Class 4A - Where they are today

In 1968 as a result of integration and the growth within South Carolina, the SCHSL instituted the 4 class system.

Specifications were pretty simple.

If the school  had over 1000 students enrolled in the school, then you were placed in the newly created Class 4A. The majority of the school s in the initial class of 4A were located in the upstate, the midlands, and along of the ole Pee Dee conference lines. Only one school was located in Charleston.

7 of the 25 schools were located in Columbia, 3 were located in Greenville and the remainder were spread out over what was then rural South Carolina.

These were the original Class 4A members.
